World Fair Trade Day, celebrated on the second Saturday of May, is a global platform that promotes and engages consumers with the wider Fair Trade Movement, particularly the arts and crafts made by over 400 members in 70 countries.
Every year there are numerous events happening around the globe in celebration of the above special day, and here in Scotland we will be gathering at Usher Hall for a 6 hour world music concert and ceilidh to celebrate World Fair Trade Day and Scotland as a Fair Trade Nation, showcasing a mix of local talent and international music as well as almighty ceilidh; stalls selling Fair Trade crafts, artisan goods and snacks; and messages on screen from World Fair Trade Organisations (WFTOs) from around the globe representing WTFO members, etc.
The World Fair Trade Gathering is being compered by celebrity presenter and journalist, as well long standing committed Fair Trade Ambassador Gail Porter and recently announced co-presenter Eunice Olumide MBE – Scottish supermodel, broadcaster and curator.
The line-up for the concert and ceilidh will include local, up and coming Leith samba band Pulse of the Place; lively Glasgow based Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 with alternative dance music; inspiring Scottish folk musician Rachel Sermanni; The Reel Time Ceilidh Band, a rapturous and foot stomping ceilidh band with a contemporary twist; rock & roll masters hot off the press from New York Miracle Glass Company; Indie band Zuba, an outstanding multi-cultural band with a great dance beat; rousing and rhythmical Get Soul Choir; award winning Irish dance performance specialists SiamSoir and piping magic from World Fair Trade piper Lou Marshall and her exhilarating Celtic fusion band Cantara.

TEAM fashionABLE is back on the runway for yet another inspiring fashion show, taking place on the 8th of November at the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh. This event is organised by Hand Up Events sister company Local Motive Markets with an aim to platform and promote diversity, integrity and inclusion in the fashion industry, as well as society through exciting fashion. FashionABLE this autumn will be focusing on Year of Youth, led by and for young people, but no matter your age you are welcome to be in touch! This is a non for profit event.
Covered by STV, BBC and Edinburgh Evening news, fashionABLE was launched in September 2016 - highlighting that diversity in life does not mean exclusion from the catwalk - as people of all ages, shapes, cultures, abilities and/or disabilities took part in the show and were received by large enthusiastic crowds.
After two successful events https://ethical.tv/2017/11/07/fashionable-2017-waverley-station/ both held in a Edinburgh Waverley Station, this year’s fashion show will take place in the iconic Scottish Parliament, that has been chosen to raise awareness and celebrate Year or Youth, as well Global Citizenship and Global Learning.
Participating in this event will provide young people with all levels of abilities and disabilities with something very positive to be involved. We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to be fully ingrained within this whole project, from the initial planning stages to the very delivery of the event -with all its aspects on the day (organising team, runway and decoration team, music & dance team, and/or modelling etc.).
This is an event that supports education, acceptance and equality, where young people will be at the heart of it all.
Please join and spread the word on this year’s fashionABLE platforming ‘empowerment’ and ‘global citizenship’ by young people and for young people.
Join us for this year's fashionABLE “YEAR OF YOUTH” Show on 8 November taking place at The Scottish Parliament, during Inclusive Fashion Week 4 to 11 November. We are now inviting young people to join us behind the scenes, to help organise this year's celebratory fashionABLE Show which will platform “Empowerment” & “Global Citizenship” by young people for young people.
