World Fair Trade Day 2017 was a big time for Hand Up Events, that we had organised a fashion show, a carnival parade and a five hour world music concert with around 200 performers to support World Fair Trade Day. We had such a great weekend and made so special with the participation of Rudi Dalvai, President WFTO who attended from Italy with his lovely wife Lorena as well International Minister for Scotland Dr. Alasdair Allan who came from Isle of Lewis and with well known presenter and Fair Trade ambassador Gail Porter presenting the events.
The most wonderful moment of the weekend though was the launch of World Fair Trade Tartan, thatHand Up Events has gifted to World Fair Trade Organisation members across the globe to weave and to then make into a catalogue of products, from scarves, to jackets, purses and bags, pencil cases to waistcoats, head accessories and wash bags. The tartan was originally Fair Trade Tartan but that we decided after a lot of thought to change to World Fair Trade Tartan as the tartan created and inspired by World Fair Trade Organisation 10 principles and the arts and crafts WFTO members across the globe.
Following the weekend, Eve Broadis from Fair Trade Scotland, a WFTO member for Scotland brought a sample of the woven tartan made by House of Edgar to Cambodia to Villageworks, a WFTO member to see if they could replicate the tartan on a loom. Well the excitement has been hard to contain as we received images and videos this week to show the tartan has been reproduced on a six button handloom and so now the tartan is has become a World Fair Trade Tartan product and from here will be made u into a range of products. 100% WFTO and 100% profits to WFTO members.
